Kanturk RFC Mini Rugby 2017/2018 Season

Dear all,

Welcome back to another season of mini rugby at Kanturk RFC. We are all very excited to be back at Knocknacolan and look forward to seeing lots of familiar faces and hopefully some new ones to welcome to our club as well.

The mini rugby management and coaching team have been doing lots of pre-season work to put together a full and enjoyable programme of events for this season including blitzes, fun days and other surprises such as day trips and group outings to rugby games. We hope that you all enjoy it, make new friends along the way and of course enhance your rugby skills!

Finally, the mini rugby directorate would like to express a huge gratitude to our official sponsor “Infinity English College” for their support in the 2017/ 2018 season.

Kind regards,

Jim Geary

Player welfare:

The club takes player welfare very seriously and all coaches are Garda vetted in line with IRFU requirements. All coaches are trained by Munster Branch on coaching methods including safety for child welfare. The club ensures that at least one person who has completed the IRFU Safe Rugby programme is present during training and blitzes. For all interested parents, the club will be arranging the next Safe Rugby training programme in the near future. You can contact your child’s coach for more details.

The club’s child welfare officer, ensures that these protocols are adhered to by the club in conjunction with our mini rugby directorate.

Please see IRFU “parent and guardian” pages for more information:

For any concerns, please contact Jim Geary, 086 0881787.

Starting in the 21st October training is every Saturday at 10:00. Coaches will notify you of any changes to this.

The club has secured the use of the Banteer indoor AstroTurf facility for the months of December and January so that we can keep some of our younger players dry and warm through the colder winter period.

Your head coach will text you regularly to ensure it is clear when and where training is taking place.

Blitz fixtures for the 2017/2018 season: The head coaches will inform players on a weekly basis of all fixtures.

Equipment required:

Each child is required to have the following equipment to play mini rugby at the club:

  • Gum shield
  • Boots
  • Warm training gear (gloves and hats are recommended in colder weather)
  • White shorts and green socks for fixtures

Tops with hoods are forbidden for training and fixtures in the interest of child welfare. Sports glasses are not recommended by the IRFU and the club adheres to this protocol.

The mini rugby directorate will arrange for sportswear supplier Impact Rugby Ireland to visit the club in October so you have the option to purchase any training gear that is needed for the season ahead. The club has secured a favourable rate with Impact Rugby Ireland to make the cost of gear as reasonable as possible.

Parents’/guardians’ involvement in the club – always welcome:

All those involved in mini rugby at the club are volunteers and the mini rugby directorate is always looking for any parents or guardians who are willing to help. This includes organising teas and coffees in the club house on training and at-home blitz days, as well as help on blitz days away etc. This is your and your child’s club and we rely on your support and help to maximise the mini rugby experience for your child.

Any suggestions you may have on helping our mini rugby family to improve and expand are always appreciated.

We would be delighted if you are willing to help out in any capacity or have any suggestions for improvement, please contact Jim Geary on 086 0881787.
