| Report: | Kanturk seconds get bonus point against Mallow's seconds but were unlucky not to come away with the win. Mallow started the stronger of the two sides, they held the ball in Kanturk’s twenty two for a good ten minute period, with a good defence Kanturk held out but Mallow finally got over the Kanturk line for the first score of the game. The resulting conversion was scored. Mallow had the most of the ball in the first half which resulted in Mallow again putting pressure on the Kanturk defence which eventually cracked and Mallow were 12 points up on the away team. They missed the two points to get the full seven. Kanturk’s first bit of ball in the Mallow half resulted in 3 points thank to John Cronin’s boot. He doubled Kanturk’s score just before the break leaving it 12 – 6 at the half. Kanturk came out in the second half the hungrier of the two teams. Good tactical kicking from hand from Brendan Cotter lead to Kanturk’s try with a kick over the top chased by Daniel O Brien and Olan Daly, The Mallows winger clearing kick was blocked down by O Brien and landed in Daly’s hand who stepped the full back and dived over the line for the try. Cronin made it a full seven points. Mallow where in shock as Kanturk took the lead for the first time in the game. With Mallow now coming in waves at Kanturk they were held out for a good 15 minute period but a scrum inside Kanturk’s twenty two left a great opportunity for Mallow to regain the lead and they jumped at this opportunity with their scrum half making a great break down the blind side and crossed to put them back in the lead. 20 – 16 with only five minutes left. Kanturk threw the kitchen sink at Mallow in the last five but couldn’t cross their line for the win. Kanturk can be happy with this result as it keeps the points ticking over on the table. |
