KANTURK HOPES TAKE A DIVE AGAINST SLIPPERY DOLPHIN
Dolphin held off a spirited Kanturk revival to land the spoils
in the Munster U18 'B' Rugby Cup Final. The City side laid the basis for victory with an impressive first half display -- their slicker and more cohesive play was a crucial factor to their first half success.
However Kanturk didn't relent too easily and battled back gamely and ultimately lost no cast in defeat.
From the outset, Dolphin offered the better controlled rugby and held command. Indeed Dolphin got down to business with a productive attacking thrust that saw outhalf Martin Aherne ideally placed to score and Aherne duly landed the additional points from the conversion.
Kanturk made a determined effort to resurrect their hopes and received a boost on Stephen Stokes accurately hitting a penalty between the posts.
Still Dolphin operated the greater assurance and exploited the Kanturk defense on a second try to force a 12-3 advantage.
The North Cork side resumed the second half in determined mood and redoubled their efforts to pose tricky questions. A Bowles penalty spurred on encouragement as Kanturk now came in waves in a bid to save the outcome. Forced to fight a rearguard action, Dolphin battened down the hatches and the try Kanturk sought to win the day never materialised.
